Mindfulness can be tricky to do on your own at first, so why not join a group or an event to get out and about to work on your inner happiness? We have loads of ideas from yoga classes and retreats to night kayaking and cycling. We’ve come up with these great events to help you feel more mindful as part of the Centra Restart 21-day Challenge. #LiveWell

This month’s training tips as part of the Centra challenge are building on mindfulness through sport and activity to make you healthier and happier. Pat Divilly has come up with clever ways to connect better with yourself and to live in the moment. Atlantic rower Gavan Hennigan also shares his favourite meditations and practices that keep him going through his tough adventures as part of the campaign.

1) The Digital Detox Challenge, Sligo

This is an overnight adventure out in the wilds as part of the Havin’ a Laugh Festival on 26-28 May 2017 that requires you to leave your phone and civilisation behind. You’ll go hiking around beautiful Lough Gill, camping in the forest, gathering your own firewood for a camp fire, abseiling, mountain biking and loads more.

2) Night Rider Sportif, Connemara in Galway

This is a cycling adventure with a difference - you ride at night! On 8 April 2017, loaded up with full lights and head torches, you can take to the quiet night-time roads of rural Connemara. This is a sportif and not a race, so you don’t have to be competitive (if you don’t want to!).

There are two distances to choose from: 60kms or 100kms. Cyclists will start just before sunset and then ride off into the darkness with only the full moon as a guide.

3) Outdoor Yoga, Dartmouth Square in Ranelagh in Dublin

Yoga is a thoroughly enjoyable way to be mindful while also getting fit, and it’s even better for you in the great outdoors as you get your hit of fresh air as well. The good people at Happenings bring hundreds of people together in Dartmouth Square every Saturday morning from spring for a yoga class that will set you back just €5.

4) Awesome Walls Women’s Coaching, Finglas in Dublin

Some of our top female climbers are on hand to coach you at these women-only coaching sessions every Wednesday night from 7-9pm at Awesome Walls in Finglas. They’re fun, sociable sessions that will give female-specific tips and are a great way to meet other climbers. It’s free for members.

5) Silent & yoga walks, Ballyhoura International Walking Festival, Co Limerick

This is one of the longest running walking festivals in Ireland, turning 24 this year with regular hiking for all abilities and also some particularly mindful walks that are silent and involve a bit of yoga along the way. There’s also great craic promised, so you’ll get your hits of fun and fitness. It takes place from 28 April - 1 May 2017.

6) Night Kayaking with atlanticseakayaking.com, West Cork

Jim Kennedy and the good folks at Atlantic Sea Kayaking near Skibbereen offer this incredible night time adventure on the sea setting off just before sun set so you can see the light changing from the water. They promise beuatiful moonlit views, the silhouettes of birds along the shore, and bio-luninescence as the water lights up at certain times of year as you paddle through it, caused by marine life. The experience is open to beginners.

7) West Cork Yoga Festival, near Ballydehob in West Cork

This is a three-day gathering of people to practice ‘yoga, movement and healing’ in the beautiful An Sanctoir Nature Reserve near Ballydehob in West Cork. It’s being held from 4-6 August 2017 and includes yoga, meditation, activities for kids, tai chi, dance, drumming, talks and loads more.

8) Festival of Outdoor Learning, Kerry

There are loads of events on offer at this festival, including a  mindful nature walk, workshops around learning in the great outdoors, and how best to do it. It’s being held from 22-23 April 2017 in Cappanalea Outdoor Activity Centre on the shores of the Caragh Lake, near Killorglin, in the mountains of Kerry and promises to be a great weekend bringing together like-minded people to share ideas and inspiration. It’s being run by Environmental Education Ireland.

9) Feile na Bealtaine, Dingle in Kerry

There’s lots of fun guaranteed at the Feile na Bealtaine music and arts festival in Dingle from 27 April to 1 May 2017. A great family event is the Sprigin Hunt, which is a treasure hunt run around a fictional character called the Sprigin. The kids will love it! There’s plenty of music, drama and even a cycling challenge for adults too.
