Want to be ready for your next adventure and be medically prepared to deal with the risks when you’re far from help? Then you’ll be interested in UK company Wilderness Medical Training’s two-day foundation programme.

This Far From Help (FFH) course has been attended by well over 1,000 students. This fast-paced course includes lectures, case studies, group problem-solving activities and practical hands-on sessions related to diagnosing and treating common injury and illness conditions.

Unlike first aid courses which don’t deal with illnesses (like infections, malaria and diarrhoea), FFH covers all of these topics in addition to managing environmental extremes (heat, cold/freezing and high-altitude travels), and the use of (and authorisation to purchase) a range of prescription medications (pain killers and antibiotics).

FFH goes way beyond first aid training and is for people likely to find themselves beyond the comfortable reach of ambulances and hospitals. FFH is suitable for anyone non-medically trained that are travelling overseas to remote places.

WMT has been delivering expedition medical training courses for overseas travellers and aspiring expedition doctors since 1991.

The course dates are as follows:
6-7 March, London at the Royal Geographical Society, £276, students £195
10-11 April, Aviemore Scotland, £220 full board
10-11 June, Oxford £255
3-4 July, Herefordshire £290 camping/meals included
