Big and better Sea Sessions

Big and better Sea Sessions

This 25-27June the seaside resort of Bundoran will once again be alive with the sound of great tunes as festival fans descend on the town for an eclectic mix of music, surfing, skate and art events.
An impressive line-up includes Paul Weller, Tom Baxter, Fun Lovin Criminals, David Holmes, Fred, Cathy Davey and more, while native DJ Johnny Moy will turn tables and drop thumping club beats from the main stage on Sat 26.
But there’s much more than just music on offer. This is the perfect opportunity to hit the waves and brush up on those surfing skills. Several local surf schools including Turf n Surf and Bundoran Surf Co can provide instruction as well as board and wetsuit rental.
If you need some inspiration to spur you on, be sure to check out the high-intensity Sea Sessions Expression Session which will pit the top Irish free surfers against the winners of the Bundoran Boardriders Junior contest. The format for the contest, which will take place on either Saturday or Sunday, will reward big moves rather than tactical surfing with the winner being decided on the best move or best wave depending on conditions.
“It’s a format that is aimed at delivering maximum fun for the spectators,” said Pete Craig of Bundoran Surf Company. The line-up includes well known names like Cain Kilcullan, Damian Conway, Nicole Morgan, Easkey Britton, Ronan Ortzen, Steven Kilfeather, Hugh Galloway and William Newmarsh.
For those who prefer land-based extreme sports, you’ll be well catered for at one of the biggest outdoor ramps in Ireland where mountain bikers, BMXers and skaters will strut their stuff. “The ramp is about twice the size it was last year so we are expecting some fairly radical stuff to happen,” said Craig. Highlights will include the incredible mountain bike skills of former World Champion Trials rider Martyn Ashton and the spectacular jumping style of Blake Samson.
Other ‘don’t miss’ festival attractions include movie showing of Relentless Powers of Three, From the Shadows and Lives of the Artists on a 10-foot LCDTV. Mickey Smith, Brendan McGloin and Barry Britton will also displaying their art at the festival. And the kiddies are well catered for too with magic, face painting and performance arts during the afternoons.
Weekend tickets for Sea Sessions 2010 cost €79.95. Camping is available from €20 for a four night weekend pass. Tickets can be bought directly from www.ticketgroup.ie. For more information, visit: http://seasessions.com
