53 Degrees North Beast of the East

53 Degrees North Beast of the East

25/07/2010
Dubbed the steepest and hardest triathlon race in Ireland by Outsider’s tri editor, the 53 Degrees North Beast of the East Olympic distance race is a must-do for any serious or aspiring Irish triathlete.
The calm lake waters of Lough Dan will provide a glorious setting for the swim with the transition area located at the lakeside in a greenfield area.
Following the swim, the bike route will be based in the Wicklow hills and the Beast of the East will surely show its true colours over 40km of hilly climbs and interesting descents. The route will be technically challenging and will certainly test the biking skills of the competitors.
Continuing with the hilly theme, the run route will also present a challenge, though some relief will be provided over the last few kilometres as it is downhill back to the finish area.
The post-race complimentary BBQ is a welcome way to replace those burnt-up calories.
One nice touch is that you’ll be able to register the night before at 53 Degrees North in Carrickmines, meaning a few extra hours of sleep. Of course if you are a serious early bird, you might prefer to register on the day at Lough Dan from 6am to 7am!
