10 July 2010

The Columbia Carlingford Lough Endurance Challenge (AKA the CLEC) is Ireland’s longest running multi-sport event. Over 300 competitors are expected to vie for top honours this year which is the 10th anniversary of the event, making it Ireland’s longest running multi-sport event.
The main event is open to two- or three-person teams (male, female and mixed). Competitors will mountain bike 31km (three stages of 18km, 5 km and 8km), run 15km (including two peak runs) and kayak 4km in the spectacular surroundings of the Cooley Mountains and Carlingford Lough in Co Louth.
New to this year’s event, is the two-person team category. Also new is the Sports or ‘Tarmac’ CLEC – a shorter individual event using a road bike instead of a mountain bike.
Top competitors take 4.5 hours to cover the 47kms, while the final finishers are expected in 6.5 hours. The Sports ‘Tarmac’ CLEC should take between 2.5 and 4 hours to complete.
When it’s all over competitors will enjoy one of the best post-event parties on the circuit at Carlingford Sailing Club. Prizes will include award winning gear by Columbia like their new Ravenous trail running shoes and their innovative Mobex adventure racing backpack.
But if you want to get your hands on a pair of Ravenous early, Columbia is offering entrants the chance to wear their own pair of these excellent trail shoes on race day. To be in with a chance to win a pair, XXXXXXXXXXXX.
