A hybrid between an adventure race and a bit of craic, the Connemara Rough Diamond Funventure is a mix of biking, running and hiking with quirky obstacles thrown in for good measure which offer the opportunity to acquire time bonus points.
Expect the unexpected, like the 4 furlongs John Wayne-themed human steeple chase, a beach dash and the ‘Fear Gorta’ assault course in the woods. And just when you think it’s all over, you’ll need to tackle the 7.5km run to the Rough Diamond Summit. This event is designed to be an electrifying athletic experience and one hell of a roller coaster of fun, guaranteed to test your sense of humour, nerve, fitness and resolve.
But when it’s all over you can chill-out with your fellow competitors in the relaxed atmosphere of the Rough Diamond after-party.
Kicking off at high noon on Lettergesh Beach in Renvyle, Co Galway, this event is about having fun in the outdoors while challenging the athlete within. It is accessible to all levels of fitness. There is free camping and parking onsite so why not bring your mates or family along and make a weekend of it.
Entry costs €60 per person and you can compete or as part of a team. For more details or to sign up, visit: www.connemararoughdiamond.com. The event’s principal charity partner is Croí, the West of Ireland Cardiac Foundation (www.croi.ie).
