In aid of DEBRA Ireland, the Wicklow Mountains Half Marathon is an off-road event (except for 4km) designed to test your stamina and fitness. With over 1,000m of climbing and 21.09km of mountain trails, the route will take you through beautiful valleys and along remote tracks high in the hills. And the views stretching along the east coast and out over the Irish Sea should ease the aches and pains as you push along the route.
Open to runners and walkers, registration takes place at Brockagh Resource Centre and then buses will take participants to the start in Glendalough. The finish point is back at the resource centre where post-race tea and coffee will be served.
Registration costs €20 and participants are also asked to fundraise a minimum of €50 for DEBRA Ireland, the charity which funds medical research into Epidermolysis Bullosa and provides general support, respite holidays, information and advice is provided to patients and their families. EB is a distressing and painful genetic skin disorder causing skin layers and body linings to separate and blister at the slightest touch. Children born with EB have skin that is as fragile as the wings of a butterfly – and as easily damaged.
