Rab’s extremely lightweight Latok Alpine Jacket (€308) is a winner both in terms of looks and as a great protective piece of outdoor kit for both winter and summer mountain experiences. Even though this waterproof jacket has (perhaps surprisingly) no pit zips, you shouldn’t get too sweaty regardless. That’s thanks to the eVent material used. A serious competitor with Gore-Tex, it seems to live up to its claim that it is more porous and therefore allows moisture vapour to escape sooner, causing less sweat build up. And just as importantly, it won’t allow any leakage of rainwater in as it has sealed inner seams that are waterproof.
Another bonus is that the hood has multiple adjustment cords, so it will fit snugly whether you are wearing a helmet or not. This jacket also offers plenty of torso room, allowing for plenty of upper body movement – great if you’re climbing.
